XLoom provides the Grid computing fabric infrastructure with cost effective optical interconnects as an alternative to bulky copper cabling. Supporting standard multi-mode fibers, XLoom’s solutions offer extended reach and easy cable management that has become the predominant standard for data center equipment. The origins of Grid computing are in the days of multi-million dollar super computers that implement MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) architectures to crunch numbers for the purpose addressing one single problem. MPP combined the resources of many processors in a single location to solve a single problem at the same time.
The evolution of supercomputers led to what is today known as HPC or High Performance Computing, whereas a large cluster of low-cost personal computers are interconnected by a switch fabric to address computing intensive tasks. Thanks to new low-latency, high bandwidth interconnect fabrics available today, these software intensive multi-processor HPC clusters are evolving into thousand nodes infrastructures, harnessing the combined processing power towards resolving a single objective.
To address these exciting challenges XLoom is working together with its Grid computing partners to assure that customers are able to meet their application requirements and reduce overall costs of ownership.
